Philo full review

Philo is a low-cost live TV streaming service in the US focused on entertainment, lifestyle and news channels. Instead of paying for expensive sports and local channels, Philo gives you 70+ live channels plus a library of more than 75,000 on-demand movies and shows, making it one of the most affordable ways to cut the cord.

The Essential plan costs $25/month and comes with a 7-day free trial for new users. The Bundle+ plan costs $33/month and adds AMC+, discovery+, All Reality and HBO Max Basic with Ads, which Philo says saves $22/month compared to buying these apps separately. You can also add premium channels such as HBO Max (ad-free) for $13/month, STARZ for $12/month, Hallmark+ for $9/month, MGM+ for $8/month, discovery+ for $8/month, AMC+ for $4/month and Movies & More for $3/month. There is no contract, so you can cancel anytime.

Every plan includes unlimited cloud DVR with recordings saved for one year, and you can skip ads in your recordings. A single account supports up to 10 profiles and 3 simultaneous streams. Live TV streams in 720p, while on-demand content plays in up to 1080p. Philo also offers Free Channels that you can watch without a credit card.

Philo works on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Samsung, LG and Vizio smart TVs, iPhone, iPad, Android devices, Fire tablets and web browsers. Support is available through live chat and phone from 6 AM to midnight ET every day, plus email and the Help Center.

Verdict: Philo is a great value for viewers who want entertainment and lifestyle channels without paying for sports. The lack of sports, local channels and 4K are the main trade-offs. Our rating: 4.0/5.
